A mother sits with her children in a village near Keita, Niger. Women in this area are the primary reason the land is becoming productive again after being ravaged by droughts in the 1970s and 80s. They have planted over 18 million trees in the region.

This is a beautiful picture and quite the nod to the determination of the women to help regain the land.
I find it interesting how the "nature" pictures of animals garner so much more attention and praise from commentors, than do those of our fellow humans.
...says something.

I couldnt take my eyes off of this photograph. The expressions on their faces haunt me. I also really like the way the mother is holding the hand of her child.
