Photo: Donkey

October 19, 2007
A tethered donkey feeds on a recently cut wheat field in the hills of Judaea near the town of Bethlehem in the West Bank. Still used for transportation, his manure will also provide fertilizer for the next round of crops.

Why was this photo chosen for Our Shot?
"It's the photograph's quiet painterly color palette and its feel of an era gone by that made me select this photograph" says Deputy Director of Photography and Photo Editor Kurt Mutchler.

Tethered or not, this content animal doesn't appear to have any intentions of leaving. The photo has a soft feeling of movement and a subtle color palette that suggests more than perhaps meets the eye. Beautifully done!

the colors on this are stunning! it's a shame the image comes smaller than standard screen resolution. this would make a beautiful desktop image *sigh*

I like the minimalist quality of this photo uncluttered and right to the point..a quiet pastoral scene with a lovely colorful accent.

Not a very nice pic rather ordinary shot. The subject should have been off the centre.Only plus point of the pic is it's harmony with nature.
