Drummer Tyrone Johnson, 9, and trumpeter Aurelien Barnes, 10, prepare to play with the Treme Brass Band for the Black Men of Labor Social Aid and Pleasure Club second line parade in 2006. The annual event, held in New Orleans the first Sunday of September, arose out of the funeral of the great jazz musician Danny Barker in 1994 to honor the traditional marching brass bands that Barker helped revive.
